A few years ago, model Stella Tennant, her French husband David Lasnet and their four children Cecily, Iris, Jasmine and Marcel decided to leave behind the humdrum of New York, and settle in Stella's childhood landscape of Scotland. And looking at these idyllic pictures of their elegant 18th century estate, I can certainly see the appeal.
(Isn't it rather refreshing to see home pictures that aren't too spick and span, but showing some traces of life?
And not in that kind of premeditated way.)
This accompanying New York Times article was a pleasure to read, painting a rather interesting & beautiful picture of their Scottish existence.

In the midst of all those images that are styled to the minutest detail, it really is somehow revitalising to see something that looks a bit more true to life.

ReplyDeleteNäissä on kyllä ihana tunnelma, kotoinen teeskentelemätön meininki.
ReplyDelete‘Yeah, it takes 10 minutes to chop down a tree and 10 years to see it grow.’” Yeah, we should hear this more often.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed refreshing to see interiors that aren’t beautified specifically for the photo shoot, sterilized of any Kleenex tissue, of a stereo, tv sets, CDs, cell phones and other non-decorative elements of every day life. It is refreshing to see a place where people live and leave traces of lives lived, be it a broom or sneakers laying around. The red sofa is a real treat, I can only imagine the joy of kids and dogs (and cats, if there’re cats, which wouldn’t surprise me) bouncing on it! The interiors don’t seem too cluttered, in spite of the array of pictures on the walls and mantel. They seem like a happy couple surrounded by happy children, so encouraging! At the time of the writer’s visit the house was a real full house! And something else: I love Stella’s short hair! She looks a bit like another French beauty, Inès de La Fressange, who doesn't shy away from cutting her hair.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story. I feel fortunate to have stumbled over your blog (can't remember how, clicking here and there), it's such a pleasure!
