AU NATUREL

well hello again, light & life.
that's what it feels like
on this quiet Friday afternoon
when a fever has subsided
& the flu taken a more mellow form.

today, my lens seeking
natural tones & forms,
the body a slow pace,
the mind some rest.

with these,
I wish you a light-filled weekend.

FEBRUARY FLOWERS

it's 3.30 pm.
i just made the bed.
holiday mode.
yesterday my daughter & I
did a shop crawl.
she picked out decorations
for her birthday party,
i went a little mad
in the flower shops.
had to finish off
with coffee,
hot chocolate
& cake of course.

it's been a week
of not doing much of anything,
which has felt like everything right now.

it's cold,
but the light that floods in
whispers s p r i n g.
i'm sensing vibrancy in the air
that's opening up the senses.

tomorrow it's time for a sleepover party.
she'll be thirteen
& i can't quite believe it.
for me,
a few more days of relishing
the light,
the flowers,
the coffee that overflows,
pages of a book
that beckon.

wishing you a lovely weekend!

NEUTRAL ZONE

Saturday,
in a neutral gear.

the chilly winds outside didn't beckon,
but a creative urge pulsated,
so I grabbed the camera
& pointed it around the house.

it gets the urge out of the system.
the urge you can't not obey.

and I lose myself
in the light,
the music,
the coffee,
the moment.

MAGIC IN THE BLOCK

i put on my dreaming lens
& walked around the block.
you don't always have to go that far to find some magic.

it could be the way the sun gives the roofs
an early kiss goodnight,

lurking inside the pages of a book,

engraved in old walls
that whisper a million stories,

woven in the the frosty fairytale world
of January,

sometimes it stares you right in the face :)

“And above all,
watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you
because the greatest secrets
are always hidden in the most unlikely places.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

DEAR MONDAY

beginning the week with a moment of peace.
daughter sniffling with her cold,
husband working from home today,
the gentle rhythm of the washing machine,
a call that got me excited,
another coffee on the boil.

a constant hunger for beauty,
to learn,
abstract images in my head
yearning to see the light of day.
it creates a sort of ever-present longing
that, I've come to see,
 doesn't have to be tormenting
but can be cherished.
it keeps you alive & curious.

here's wishing you a good week ahead.

SWEET REFUGE

some simple details
to start the weekend.
coffee & pistachio buns this afternoon
to celebrate our son passing his violin exam.
music streaming,
bouquet from the local flowershop.

it's been a quiet week,
so quiet it started to make me a little jittery.
but yesterday I landed a lovely suprise shoot
in the neighbourhood
& right after that,
my work diary sort of filled up all by itself
for the rest of the year it seems.
should have just relished this quiet
I winked to myself...
as much as I appreciate time for just me,
I do thrive with enough to do
& the right amount of spare time
for the creative spirit to take flight,
although who wouldn't I guess...

been flicking through the pages
a true match made in heaven.
his images
& the quality of the pages between the fingers,
enough to transport into a world of soulful beauty,
where texture & warmth abound.

with this quick post,
I wish you a very happy weekend.

WINTER IN MARCH

a weekend of birthday celebrations & people,
walks in a wintry landscape by the sea,
moments of quiet with a book.
it's march but winter's hanging in there,
yet it's lost its grip.
daylight lingers,
lightness inside pushes through.

i've been immersed in the words of Ali Smith,
she reignited a passion to read
that's been on a backburner for a bit.
words like these in her book Winter,
(which I couldn't put down
despite a desire to savour,
so the only option was to read each word slowly):

“What he longs for instead,
as he sits at the food-strewn table,
is winter, winter itself.
He wants the essentiality of winter,
not this half-season grey selfsameness.
He wants real winter where woods are sheathed in snow,
trees emphatic with its white,
their bareness shining and enhanced because of it,
the ground underfoot snow-covered as if with frozen feathers
or shredded cloud but streaked with gold through the trees from low winter sun,
and at the end of the barely discernible track,
along the dip in the snow that indicates a muffled path between the trees,
the view and the woods opening to a light
that’s itself untrodden,
never been blemished,
wide like an expanse of snow-sea,
above it more snow promised,
waiting its time in the blank of the sky.”

i've cleared my diary for next week
to give my joint venture the attention it craves right now.
things are exciting on the work front on so many levels
that sometimes it's a littly tricky to swith off.
but i'm learning
& loving the balance.

wishing you a lovely Sunday evening
& light-filled week ahead.

TODAY

Today I'm flying low
& I'm not saying a word.
I'm letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping,
the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I'm taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move
though really I'm travelling
a terrific distance.

Stillness.
One of the doors
into the temple.
