ISLAND WANDER

Me, my girl & a quiet island.
Close by,
another world.
The wind turned her cheeks to rosebuds,
on the other side of the island,
the sun glistened in gold.

Although it was closed,
there was a faint sound of music
 from the summer restaurant
lingering in the crisp air,
as birds began their feast
on her outstretched hand.

"We stood
steady as the stars in the woods
So happy-hearted
And the warmth rang true
inside these bones
As the old pine fell we sang,
just to bless the morning."

AFTERGLOW

Been waking up later.
Stretching in peace
after everyone else has disappeared.
Sleeping sounder at night,
feeling more restful in the day.
I put the coffee on the stove,
quietly begin the day's work,
exercise in between,
then carry on.
Today, a happy jumble in the kitchen
after last night's independence day get-together.
A fridge full of leftovers,
and a heart warm with the afterglow
of friends who mean so much.

Sometimes I don't quite know what to write here,
but I do want to share something,
glimpses even.
Something of the thankfulness
for this time of life.
For learning to trust in the small steps.
I've nudged a wish this autumn
for a workspace
shared with others,
and a chance conversation
a couple of weeks ago
got my hopes up
in the best possible way.
More of that later,
if it materialises...

All I can say is
I've been blown away
by the generosity of people recently,
by a genuine desire to make others happy,
LOVE.
Friendships that by now have become so solid.
A relationship with my husband
that can go through tricky patches,
but always returns to a clearing
bathed in light & peace.
I think I've learned this recently
- sometimes giving space,
letting go even,
can bring a huge blessing in return
when the time is right.

HIBERNATION

The weeks might be busy,
the weather cold,
but the weekends extra cosy
this time of year.

LA BOHÈME

{ because some days simply require some Edith Piaf... }

I notice that now
that I don't belong
to a work community anymore,
everyday encounters
take on a whole new meaning.
Like this week,
meeting with a friend
for coffee in the middle of the day,
striking a conversation
with a friendly shopkeeper,
stopping to help an old lady
from the lift and out of the building.
Whether deep and meaningful
or an accidental exchange of words,
those moments mean something,
sometimes more than the other person
might even guess.
Especially those little old ladies
with their twinkling eyes
turn my heart into goo... :)

I'm still in that honeymoon period
of having more time,
not just freed up
by ditching my morning job
in the spring,
but having bigger children,
who have longer days at school
and require less escorting to hobbies
now that they are so able & willing
to do much more themselves.
I keep stopping & wondering,
almost as if on the brink of something new.
Time to see & feel
in a whole new way.
Seasons change
in more ways than one.

Roses brought by my mother last week
are spilling all over the table now.
Darkness descends earlier by the day.
Evenings take on comforting rituals of their own -
 books, cups of herbal tea
or a drop of red wine now and then,
& curling up with dear husband
to watch films & English series
in a quiet house.
The week will end
with the silver lining
of a nice little photography gig
before taking time
to spend with the kids
during their autumn break next week.

Some autumnal inspiration
I've gathered over time right here.

Wishing you as well as can be!

FIG & INDIGO

The mind turns to fig clouds
& indigo lakes
shrouded by thick woods.

An autumn palette
begins to paint the skies
& the mind's eye.

(A palette that instantly transports me
 timeless, aeshetic world.

And the succulent textures
to the voice of Lianne La Havas
whose music has been streaming
through these rooms
all morning,
like taking a dip
in a bowl of sumptuous plum jam.)

Wishing you a sweet weekend!

I'll murmur it,

TREAD LIGHTLY

First week of June.
A lightness of being,
 a summery feeling.

The heat subsided for a moment,
but even the darkest clouds radiate light.
I keep hoping for a proper thunderstorm,
but the skies are full of false warnings.

Time for a holiday soon,
but first it's all about
tackling the remains of odd jobs
& laundry piles,
and jotting down little plans.

A sense of rest
intensifies amid mundane chores,
wraps itself softly against the skin.
Butterfly wings
quietly whisper an invitation to adventures.

Kesäkuun ensimmäinen viikko.
Kevyt olo.
Kesäolo.

Helle taittui hetkellisesti,
mutta synkätkin pilvet säkenöivät valoa.
Turhaan saaanut odotella kunnon ukkosmyrskyä,
taivas täynnä vääriä hälytyksiä.

Kohta lomalle,
mutta sitä ennen vielä hommien
& pyykkivuoren kuromista,
satunnaisia suunnitelmia muistivihkoon.
Arkisia askareita,
joiden keskellä levon tunne tihenee,
kietoutuu hellästi ihon ympärille.
Perhosen siivet kuiskuttavat hiljaa
kutsua seikkailuun.
