SWEET ABANDON

wishing you lingering summer days,
light that glows on the inside & out,
memories to treasure.
more life on here in a few weeks!

BECOMING JUNE

becoming june,
becoming freedom.

a moment with Julia Margaret Cameron.

coffee with cream left over
from yesterday's pavlova
(everyone's had better things to do
than pop to the corner shop
for some more milk.)
it made me think
about my Finnish grandma Hellin
who would sip on hers
from a saucer
sitting on her yellow porch.
softly blurred childhood memories
like photographs faded by the sun.
if I could have a wish,
I'd ask for a chance
to sit there on that porch
and have a chat,
woman to woman,
heart to heart.

 moments with roses.
becoming roses.
patient attempts
to capture fluttering butterflies,
but they won't be tamed.
strangely i feel them take flight
somewhere deep inside.

MONTH OF THE WILD FOLK

At last came the golden month⁣
of the wild folk⁣
~ honey-sweet May, ⁣
& the flowers come out, ⁣
& the air is full of the sunrise scents ⁣
& songs of the dawning year.⁣

DREAM SERIES

“there’s something beautiful
about keeping certain aspects of your life hidden.
maybe people & clouds are beautiful
because you can’t see everything.”

SUMMER REIMAGINED

I feel thankful to my core
for the gift that is photography.
for time & a quiet house
at the beginning of the week
to breathe, dig inside
& imagine.
on this particularly dim & grey November day,
I fancied gathering my hem
by the faint window light
& reimagine summer.

SUMMER'S WISHES

in between tackling the laundry
& folding summer dresses into neat piles
ready to be slipped inside my suitcase,
i wanted to pop here briefly.

i've been off for a few days now,
and although still at home,
simply a rest from all the humdrum of late
has painted new horizons inside the head...

we are off to italy for a few weeks,
& so curious to see
what Tuscan & Umbrian stories await,
ones to also share with you when the time comes.

so for now,
a sweet summer to you,
whatever you are doing.

THE JOURNEY

"One day you finally knew
what you had to do,
& began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting their bad advice ~"

"though the whole house
began to tremble
& you felt the old tug
at your ankles."

"Mend my life"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.

"You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy was terrible."

"It was already late enough,
& a wild night,
& the road full of fallen branches and stones."

"But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
& there was a new voice
which you slowly recognized as your own,"

"that kept you company
as you strode deeper & deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do ~"

"determined to save
the only life you could save."

LATE-NIGHT EDIT

with 90 per cent of my memory card
filling up with stuff for others this week
that needed to be vibrant, sharp and look like them,
the weekend comes and I'm gaaasping
to blur the lines, fade out the colours,
find comfort in what remains unseen.
a little rummage through the hard drive
led to a late-night edit on those lines.

“I have no advice for anybody;
except to, you know,
be awake enough
to see where you are at any given time,
& how that is beautiful,
& has poetry inside.”

- Jeff Buckely
