SWEET REFUGE

some simple details
to start the weekend.
coffee & pistachio buns this afternoon
to celebrate our son passing his violin exam.
music streaming,
bouquet from the local flowershop.

it's been a quiet week,
so quiet it started to make me a little jittery.
but yesterday I landed a lovely suprise shoot
in the neighbourhood
& right after that,
my work diary sort of filled up all by itself
for the rest of the year it seems.
should have just relished this quiet
I winked to myself...
as much as I appreciate time for just me,
I do thrive with enough to do
& the right amount of spare time
for the creative spirit to take flight,
although who wouldn't I guess...

been flicking through the pages
a true match made in heaven.
his images
& the quality of the pages between the fingers,
enough to transport into a world of soulful beauty,
where texture & warmth abound.

with this quick post,
I wish you a very happy weekend.

SKY CIRCLES

Spring burst through the door
& painted everything blush, cotton and neon.
The warmer breeze
has released an air of ease.
The mind drifts to summer holidays
in a heat that soars to
near-African temperatures.
I'm ready for the adventure.

Until then,
the days continue to be filled
with words & photography editing for others.
And then I reward myself
by rummaging through the  hard drive
for one or two just for me,
for you,
like these ones.
I add my thing to them slowly,
smiling,
feeling the love,
wanting nothing but tenderness
& dreaminess,
as music fills the room.
There's freedom right there,
in that small moment.

It's freedom that always beckons,
and makes the thought of a total break
shine like a beacon.
To feel it rushing through the body,
leading by the hand to play (= to create),
while I leave all expectations behind
(mine & others')
in a heap in the hallway.
And then,
at summer's end,
begin again,
with a clearer mind,
and a heart that's aligned.

(And I sit here writing this, thinking,
"but you've mulled on these same things before".
I look calmly in the eye and say,
"but darling, even if it's two steps back sometimes,
that, too, constitutes a journey.")

Let's make some sweeping sky circles this summer,
shall we?

UNFETTERED

i had my morning coffee with milk & February sun,
followed by a long walk along the waterfront
- the sea unfettered & free.

freedom,
the  most beautiful word.

WINGS

We leave behind our nests of linen sheets
& usual humdrum.
 A drive through a landscape
of silver roads,
silent lakes
& birch trees dripping in gold.

Suddenly a field
with hundreds of swans
 gathered
before taking flight
to faraway lands.

The most spine-tingling
sight & sound
imaginable.

We land in my parents' quiet house
& fill it with all that noise & bustle
that a family with children
tends to without even noticing.

They don't seem to mind.
There's tenderness in their eyes.

Traces of autumn everywhere you look,
silently nudging to a quieter place inside.
If summer fills you with a certain restlessness,
autumn seems to bring you back home.

The odd thing is that as a rest takes hold of heart & soul,
it's as if you gain wings to soar.

A silence & a pulsating feeling of freedom.
