SUNDAY SCENTS

weekend sounds:

blackbird in the backyard
laughter of friends around the dinner table
deep breaths

weekend scents:

peonies
myrrhe balthazar
freshly soaped floors
steamy asparagus risotto wafting from the kitchen

today,
the company of my mother.
we plan to go out,
perhaps visit a museum,
sit in the sun with a coffee cup.
a rare treat to have her all to myself for a moment.

sweet sunday my dear friend.

MORNING

it's been one of those weeks
that appears out of nowhere
to cast a dark shadow,
yet shines a whole new light
on where the heart is,
making my loved ones glow.

mornings are always full of promise,
weekend mornings an entire universe of their own.
feeling the city awakening around you,
as you clutch that morning coffee,
head still half-buried in dreams.

inspired by images by model turned photographer/fashion designer
(glimpsed on my desk in the top photo),
another of her stunning sets of Caroline de Maigret here.

wishing you a restful Sunday
right where you are.

SATURDAY SOUNDS

Today, snowflakes have been landing softly,
sprinkling their icing sugar frosting
on black rooftops,
getting tangled in eyelashes,
covering every crevice,
blocking out sounds,
quenching the smell of the soil.

Inside, the softness lands, too.
The quiet of a Saturday.
Actually hearing the coffee brewing in the kitchen,
water rushing from the tap,
the abrupt rustling of sheets,
as they're changed for crisp, fresh ones.
Feelgood music,
the persistent creak of that one loose floorboard
in the hallway
under bare feet.

Weekend sounds,
January feel.
A white, cold, long month,
but with a subdued lull.
A little trip on the horizon,
intriguing projects in the pipeline,
babies about to be born,
granny reaching a grand one hundred.
Loose ends, too,
but without stealing the limelight
from the gratitude that rises to the surface
for life & its surprises,
the natural pace of things
that goes unforced.

Weekend sounds,
January lull.

DREAMING

An ashen-hued Friday
interrupted by a strike of lightning,
then the fleeting glimmer of the sun,
before hushing down to a feathery grey again.

Body & mind slowed right down
with a little autumn flu.
Weeks of busyness
came to an end,
now time to land in between.

Despite its unfinished state,
our home is warm,
its walls dripping with dreams.

Tuhkanharmaa perjantai,
jonka hetkeksi keskeytti salamointi,
sitten kultainen valo,
joka katosi yhtä nopeasti kuin ilmestyi,
taittui takaisin untuvan pehmeään harmauteen.
Mieli & ruumis sykkivät
harmittoman syysflunssan otteessa hitaalla.
Kiireviikot takana,
aikaa laskeutua hengähtämään.
Koti kaikessa keskeneräisyydessään
on lämmin,
sen seinät tihkuvat unelmia.
