DREAM SERIES

“there’s something beautiful
about keeping certain aspects of your life hidden.
maybe people & clouds are beautiful
because you can’t see everything.”

MAGNOLIAS & HAIKUS

I was searching for a poem or lovely quote about magnolias
when posting this last one,
but to my amazement did't really find anything...
(all you poets out there,
here's a subject for you :))

But then I discovered The Haiku Guys & Gals,
asked for a haiku about magnolias,
& bang it arrived in my inbox a little while ago,
just in time for the real deal blooming out there.

The scent of hope is definitely lingering in the air...

BRUISED

“it was the kind of moon
that I would want to send
back to my ancestors
& gift to my descendants

so they know that I too,
have been bruised...
by beauty.”

MAGNOLIA

"Whatever it is you water
that is what will grow

so always water love,
not fear."

TODAY

Today I'm flying low
& I'm not saying a word.
I'm letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping,
the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I'm taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move
though really I'm travelling
a terrific distance.

Stillness.
One of the doors
into the temple.

BROKEN

“Life cracks us into unrecognizable shards
of former incarnations.
Slivers of our hurt and our pain and our shame
nestles next to fragments
of our truth, our divinity,
our fierce reclamation of power."

"It is this very brokenness that allows us to knit together,
kaleidoscope style.
And we spin and shift and turn to the light
until we appear brilliant,
lit from within.
Suddenly we are revealed;
unexpected beauty born directly from brokenness."

"We have to be willing to break in order to become.”

GHOST OF JUNE

"ghost of june,
i will always find you everywhere ~"

"in the madrigal of anastasia lilies;"

"the henna dusted tresses of twilight
spread over the baroque bed
of sleepy highways
tapering into a sheet of dust;"

"in the shadows that junipers tattoo
over chiming brooks;"

"in the clairvoyant racket of ravens
promising the sylvan vagabond's homecoming."

images from an intoxicating drive on a weekend in June.

THE JOURNEY

"One day you finally knew
what you had to do,
& began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting their bad advice ~"

"though the whole house
began to tremble
& you felt the old tug
at your ankles."

"Mend my life"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.

"You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy was terrible."

"It was already late enough,
& a wild night,
& the road full of fallen branches and stones."

"But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
& there was a new voice
which you slowly recognized as your own,"

"that kept you company
as you strode deeper & deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do ~"

"determined to save
the only life you could save."
