BE STILL, MY BEATING HEART

A winter flu slowed me right down,

a godsend in fact

- been a bit hyper lately

& the tempo is just set to pick up. 

Today, clutching my warm cup,

whispering a wish for time to stand still 

for a moment longer.

Happy to get to spend some of those moments

here, with you,

in my peaceful place.

Just realised I'd know exactly 

what to say if someone asked me

what my Christmas colours are.

They are right here -

dark, succulent, deep, muted

Roversi-esque hues,

& a touch of sparkle. 

  And Julien Archer's creations would just make for

the perfect Christmas shoot 

(or for any other shoot for that matter).

Part of me is sad to depart

what a lovely ring to the word.

The way it sounds

& all that it holds

- leaves soon turning

into a myriad of colours.

The soul turning a leaf, too,

on the brink of something new. 

Toast sure does early autumn beautifully.
